20–40km through frozen backcountry tracks completely inaccessible by car. Speed, cold air, and the vast silence of Finnish Lapland.
There are places in the Kuusamo backcountry that no car, no road, and no ordinary tourist will ever reach. Our snowmobile expedition takes you there — following frozen wilderness tracks through remote terrain that feels entirely wild and entirely yours.
On modern, powerful snowmobiles you will cover between 20 and 40km depending on the night's conditions. The combination of speed, biting cold air, and the vast silence of a Finnish winter wilderness is exhilarating in a way that is difficult to put into words — and impossible to forget.
Our expert guide leads the way, setting the pace and ensuring your safety throughout. Whether you are an experienced rider or stepping onto a snowmobile for the first time, our briefing will have you moving confidently within minutes.
A properly wild Finnish winter experience — speed, silence, and wilderness on a scale you will not believe.
Your route winds through frozen lakebeds, dense boreal forest, and open tundra-like clearings that few people ever see in winter. The exact distance and route varies by snow conditions — every expedition is different.
The tracks we follow exist only in winter, on snow. They lead to remote locations deep in the Kuusamo backcountry that are completely unreachable by road or foot. On a snowmobile, you reach places that feel like discovery.
Before departure, your guide provides a comprehensive safety and riding briefing covering controls, braking, speed management, and how to handle the terrain. No previous snowmobile experience is required to join this tour.
Your guide leads the convoy, knows every track and shortcut, and manages the group's pace and safety. They also know the best spots to stop, cut the engine, and simply listen to a silence so complete it becomes its own sound.

Yes, a valid driving licence is required to operate a snowmobile as the sole rider. Finnish law requires this for all motorised vehicles, including snowmobiles, when driven solo. International licences are fully accepted. If you do not have a driving licence, you are very welcome to join as a passenger on a two-person snowmobile — the experience is equally exhilarating.
Absolutely. The majority of our guests are first-time snowmobile riders. Modern snowmobiles are intuitive to control, and our pre-departure safety briefing covers everything you need to know. Our guide sets a pace that is comfortable for all riders in the group, adjusting the speed to match conditions and experience levels. Many guests are surprised by how naturally it comes to them.
Our snowmobiles are capable of high speeds, but on a group expedition the guide sets a controlled pace suitable for all riders. On open stretches you will experience the thrill of genuine speed; on forest tracks and technical sections the pace slows. The guide manages the convoy to keep it together and safe. If you would like a more speed-focused private expedition, contact us to discuss a tailored private booking.
We provide a full-face helmet and insulated overalls. Wear warm thermal base layers, a mid-layer, and insulated waterproof boots underneath. At snowmobile speeds in Finnish winter temperatures, wind chill makes −10°C feel considerably colder. Warm gloves (ideally waterproof mitts) are essential. Let us know your clothing sizes when booking and we will ensure the right gear is ready for you.
Yes — in fact, our snowmobile expedition often ventures into areas with excellent aurora visibility, far from light pollution. If conditions are right, your guide will stop in a suitable spot for aurora viewing during the expedition. For the full dedicated aurora experience with real-time KP tracking, cloud chasing, and photography coaching, we recommend booking our Guaranteed Aurora Hunting Photography Tour on a separate night. Many guests do both and agree it is the perfect Finnish Lapland combination.
