Tour Overview

You Drive.
They Lead the Way.

There is no feeling quite like it. The moment your team of Siberian huskies begins to pull, you feel the raw energy of the pack surge beneath your feet — and then you are gliding, silent except for the soft crunch of snow and the steady rhythm of paws. You are in charge. You are the musher.

Our 10–12km route winds through ancient spruce forest, across frozen clearings, and along trails that only locals know. The landscape in winter is breathtaking: snow-laden branches, a sky full of stars, and the quiet of a wilderness that feels entirely yours.

No experience is needed. Our guides provide a thorough briefing before departure — commands, braking, and the art of reading your dogs. Within minutes, you will feel completely at ease.

The Experience

What to Expect

From the moment you meet your dogs to the final glide back through the trees, every moment is unforgettable.

01
Drive Your Own 4–6 Husky Team

You take the reins on your own sled, commanding a team of 4–6 eager Siberian huskies. Our guides ride with the group and are always on hand, but the experience of leading your own team is genuinely yours to keep.

02
10–12km Through the Finnish Forest

The route covers 10–12km of pristine forest trails, frozen lakes, and open clearings. The experience of crossing a silent, snow-covered wilderness with only the sound of your huskies and the wind is unlike anything else in the world.

03
Husky Briefing and Safety Instruction

Before departure, our guide gives you a full mushing briefing — how to handle the sled, brake safely, manage your dogs on corners, and give commands. By the time you set off, you will feel confident and excited in equal measure.

04
No Experience Needed — All Levels Welcome

First-time mushers are not just welcome, they are the norm. Our huskies are well-trained, responsive, and used to working with people of all abilities. Children aged 7 and above can drive their own sled; younger children ride in the sled with a guide.

Important Notes

Before You Book

Minimum driving age: Children aged 7 and above may drive their own sled. Younger children (and anyone who prefers it) ride in the sled with the guide — an equally magical experience.

Season: The Husky Safari runs December through March, snow season only. The forest is at its most beautiful under a full winter snowpack.

Fitness: Mushing is light exercise — standing on a sled requires balance rather than strength. The experience is suitable for most fitness levels.

Clothing: Dress warmly in layers. We recommend thermal base layers, a winter jacket, and insulated waterproof boots. Overalls and boots are available from us if needed.

Payment: Secure your place with a €55 deposit. Balance due 48 hours before your tour date.

Questions Answered

Husky Safari FAQ

None whatsoever. The vast majority of our guests have never driven a husky sled before. Our guides provide a comprehensive briefing covering everything you need: how to give commands, how to use the brake, how to manage corners, and how to read your dogs. Most guests feel completely confident within the first few minutes of their run.

Absolutely. Children aged 7 and above can drive their own team of huskies — and they tend to take to it faster than adults. Younger children can ride in the sled with one of our guides, which is an equally wonderful experience. The Husky Safari is one of our most popular family choices, often described by children as the highlight of their entire Finland holiday.

Dress in warm layers: thermal base layers, a mid-layer fleece or down jacket, and a windproof outer layer. Insulated waterproof boots are essential. If you don't have suitable outdoor gear, we can provide overalls and boots — just let us know your sizes when booking. We recommend covering all exposed skin to protect against the cold, particularly on moving sleds where wind chill is a factor.

This is one of our most important commitments. Our huskies live and work in conditions that reflect their natural instincts — running is what Siberian huskies are bred and born to do, and a well-run dog is a happy dog. Our animals are cared for by dedicated handlers who know each dog by name and temperament. We operate small groups to minimise stress on the dogs and ensure every run is a positive experience for the animals as much as the guests.

The Husky Safari runs in the evening, which means there is always the possibility of seeing the northern lights on a clear night — especially during peak aurora season (October–February). If you want the full aurora hunting experience with real-time KP tracking and cloud chasing, we recommend also booking our Guaranteed Aurora Hunting Photography Tour on a separate evening. Many guests book both and call it the trip of a lifetime.
