Kuusamo Airport (KAO) is just 28km from Ruka and has direct charter and scheduled flights from Helsinki (Finnair, 1.5hr) and winter charters from many European cities including London, Amsterdam, and Stockholm. We can help arrange airport transfers. Alternatively, Oulu Airport is 200km south with more frequent connections. We're happy to advise on the best route from your departure city.

For December and January (peak aurora season), we recommend booking 2–3 months in advance as tour spots fill quickly. February and early March are slightly more flexible but still popular, especially during Finnish and European school holidays. September and October spots often remain available with shorter notice. We accept a 50% deposit to hold your booking, with the balance due 14 days before your tour date.

Yes — we open next-season bookings from April onwards. Aurora season runs September through March, and we begin accepting reservations for the coming winter as soon as our guide schedule is confirmed each spring. Booking early guarantees your preferred dates, especially over Christmas and New Year when demand is highest. A 50% deposit secures your spot and locks in current pricing. Absolutely. If the Northern Lights do not appear on your tour night, we rebook you free of charge on the next available tour — no questions, no conditions. We have operated since 2018 and have never had a full season where guests didn't see the aurora. Our real-time KP-index monitoring and 100+ km mobility means we find the lights even when local skies are cloudy. The KP-index (0–9) measures global geomagnetic activity caused by solar wind. At Ruka's latitude (66°N), visible aurora begins at KP2 and becomes spectacular at KP4+. Our guides monitor space weather forecasts from NOAA and the Finnish Meteorological Institute in real time, every single night. We also track live cloud cover across a 200km radius and reposition to clear skies when needed — this mobility is the core of our guarantee. Our aurora guarantee covers any visible northern lights activity — but we always aim to find the most spectacular display possible, not just the minimum. If conditions produce only a faint glow, our guides will reposition to darker skies and maximise the experience. Photography coaching means your camera will often capture far more detail than the naked eye can see. That said, if aurora is not visible at all despite our best efforts, you receive a full free rebook. Faint aurora still counts as seen — we're transparent about this, and on quieter nights we make every moment around the campfire count.

A DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual mode is ideal. We recommend a wide-angle lens (14–24mm, f/2.8 or faster), a sturdy tripod, spare batteries (cold kills them fast — keep them in your breast pocket), and extra memory cards. Our guides provide hands-on coaching for exact settings on your specific camera. Modern iPhones and Samsung Galaxy phones in night mode also capture stunning aurora images — don't let gear stop you from booking.

Our tours start at € 95 per person for the Reindeer Safari, € 125 for the Snowmobile Aurora Expedition, € 150 for the Husky Safari & Aurora Night, and € 198 per person for our flagship Guaranteed Aurora Hunting Photography Tour. All prices include transport and expert guide. The Aurora Hunt also offers a 50% deposit option at booking.

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) via our secure online checkout. We also accept bank transfer, Revolut, and Wise for international guests — details are provided after booking. For our flagship Aurora Hunt, we offer a split-payment option: pay 50% deposit now to secure your date and the remaining 50% is due 14 days before your tour. There are no booking fees or currency conversion surcharges on any payment method.

We offer free cancellation or reschedule up to 48 hours before your tour date — you'll receive a full refund with no penalties. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the tour are non-refundable, though we will do our best to rebook you on a different date at no extra charge if circumstances permit. If we cancel your tour due to severe weather, force majeure, or guide unavailability, you receive a full refund or complimentary rebook. Travel insurance is strongly recommended for all guests.

Yes — families are our favourite guests. Aurora hunting, reindeer safaris, and snowshoe tours are suitable for all ages including toddlers. Husky safaris welcome children 5+. Snowmobile driving requires age 16+, though younger children can ride as passengers with an adult. We pace every family tour at a relaxed, memorable rhythm.

We welcome guests of all abilities and work hard to make our tours as inclusive as possible. Our Aurora Hunting and Reindeer Safari tours involve minimal physical activity and can be adapted for wheelchair users or guests with limited mobility — our transport vehicles have step-free access options, and viewing locations are chosen with comfort in mind. Snowmobile and Husky Safari tours require more physical capability; we'll advise honestly on suitability for each guest.

Absolutely — most guests do exactly this. A popular 3-night package combines our Aurora Hunt (night 1), Husky Safari (day 2), and Reindeer Safari with sauna (evening 3). We can build a full multi-day itinerary including accommodation recommendations, transport, and dining. The more nights you stay, the higher your chance of a truly spectacular aurora display. Yes — we regularly host corporate groups, incentive travel groups, hen and stag parties, and large family gatherings. For groups of 9 or more, we operate multiple vehicles simultaneously so every guest gets the same intimate experience. We can arrange tailored group packages including accommodation blocks, catering, private campfire dinners, and photography sessions. Group rates are available for bookings of 10 or more guests.
